When it comes to shaving methods, I'm the ultimate consumer -- I'll try any gadget, bauble, number of blades, lotion, strips, or method to try to minimize the pain. Having tried all the rest, for the last year or so I've settled on the Gillette Mach3 razor, which does an admirable job of shaving close, without turning my face into the climactic scene of Silence of the Lambs.
You can only imagine my excitement when the new M3Power came out -- could it be that Gillette improved upon my favorite razor? I'm happy to report that in fact they have. Not only is there a pleasant vibrating sensation while shaving due to the motor that is embedded in the handle of the blade, those vibrations somehow eliminate 90% of the pain, if not more. I heartily recommend this razor to anyone with sensitive skin. | I think the vibration is suppose to stimulate the hair to raise up. Once the hairs are raised up, then you're able to cut more of it off.
That's what it seemed like to me in the commercial. |
 | My personal approach these days is to only shave once a week. I use a fixed head, single blade, disposable, with some soap.
Admittedly most of the time I look like a bum.
Happily, within academia, nobody cares.

 | must admit I've been playing with this mach3power for past 2-3 weeks, wouldn't say it's really 5start impressive, but I guess a nice improvement. good thing they kept the backward compatibility with M3 heads - otherwise would've totaly banned Gillete. then again.. some 10year(?) difference in shaving experience gotta have it's weight here (pez, you'r hitting your 40s by now, right? ;) |
 | the secret to a great shave is to exfoliate first. forget about vibrators and razors with 67 blades... |
 | I reluctantly moved to the Mach 3 (I still remember the 1975 SNL commercial: "3 blades: Because you'll believe anything"), but it is the best razor I've used. I may have to try the new one.
I actually went back into shaving technology to find my perfect shave - brush and soap. Hot lather brushed in makes shaving 100% better, and it's a lot less to replace - an $8 bar of shaving soap lasts about 2 years (I shave ~3x a week), a brush lasts 3.
Now my only discomfort is on business trips, when I use gel. Still working on that. |
 | The best shave EVER. They have done IT! Forget the expensive panasonics that die after the warranty period and the expensive brauns. This Gillete can be used in the shower, gives a much closer shave than any machine. Light in weight and lower in price than any shaving machine. |
